My Journey with MS began about 5 years ago. Although I was unaware of my diagnosis for sometime I began experiencing blurred vision and pins and needles. Since I am in the fitness industry, I immediately thought that the pins and needles were due to working out and learned to deal with its presence in my life. The blurred vision was a different story. It became increasingly difficult for me to focus and after changing my perscription several times in a year I finally went to an eye surgeon seeking help.
It was not until an MRI was performed to rule out any tumor on the optic nerve that the 6 lesions were found on my brain. From there my life changed.
More testing led to my diagnosis of MS. I remember as it were yesterday when my then Neurologist gave me pamphlets of all the available MS drugs and said review these and make a decision as to what shot you would like to take. I was shocked, a shot? Everyday? Really? As I read the pamphlets as saw the side effects of these meds were flu like symptoms lasting for 1-2 days I soon realized that this was not for me.
I started to research alternative treatments and became fascinated with the correlation of diet and MS. The thought of changing my diet completely freaked me out so I decided to do nothing. Nothing led to more symptoms and feeling like crap so it was a time for change for me.
I decided that I would start by eliminating refined sugars and dairy from my diet as well as reducing my gluten intake. Within weeks I began to feel a difference. My symptoms started to diminish and I began to feel better.
column 2
About 9 month later after eating chicken I got food poisoning which then resulted in a MS relapse. I decided then that I would never put anything into my body that could make me sick. I gave up all animal products and went to a vegan, plant based diet.
I am now healthier than I have ever been living on a plant based diet. I rarely get sick and escaped any illness at all in the last 12 months. No relapses and physically the strongest that I have ever been in my life.
